Devco and Rutgers Now

New Brunswick PAC & Mason Gross School of the Arts

The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, currently under construction on Livingston Avenue, is a landmark initiative to shape the future of arts and culture in New Brunswick. In addition to creating a home for Mason Gross School of the Arts’ new musical theatre program, NBPAC will host several of New Jersey’s premier arts organizations including George Street Playhouse,  American Repertory Ballet, and Crossroads Theatre Company.

Developed by Devco, the center will inject energy into the downtown area and will allow MGSA students to rub elbows with the professional artists of the resident theater and dance companies and broaden its outreach to the Central Jersey community. The project, which includes space for offices and a 207-unit residential rental apartment tower, has a target completion date of August 2019.

Rutgers is a 28 percent owner of the $65 million NBPAC, which will feature two new performance spaces: a 462-seat proscenium theater with orchestra pit, fly tower, and wing space for music and dance events, and a 252-seat proscenium theater for drama productions and film screenings. The larger theater has been designed to specifications proposed by faculty of the MGSA who intend to also use the space for opera and dance performances.

The New Jersey Innovation & Technology Hub

New Jersey’s groundbreaking destination for breakthrough discoveries will be located in the heart of downtown New Brunswick. Devco’s partnership with Rutgers University, Rutgers Biomedical & Health Science, RWJ Barnabas Health System, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority will result in the creation of The Innovation & Technology Hub.

Located adjacent to the New Brunswick train station, The Hub will propel the success of this bold initiative. This project recently took on a new life when Governor Phil Murphy set out to initiate greater collaboration between New Jersey’s research universities, entrepreneurs, and established industries to accelerate the discovery of health care solutions by fostering the development of new science therapies, products, and technologies.

The proposed 4+ million square foot innovation district will also include destination retail and entertainment along with new residential units. The Hub will be a center of international prominence with globally-diverse talent and resources bringing together life sciences, tech, and industries of the future – like artificial intelligence – to support the rapid iteration and real-world application of technology. This project will make Rutgers University, already one of the world’s leading public research universities, an even more attractive location for students to reside, research, and grow.
